SHSAT Study Guide with Practice Tests Two complete sets of practice test questions including scrambled paragraphs, logical reasoning, reading comprehension, and mathematics Prepared by a dedicated team of experts! (2) Practice SHSAT-style exercises (not full-length practice tests) in each topic and learn techniques to solve various types of problems and time-saving techniques. For instance, a student can do a hundred SHSAT-style exercises just in percentages. (Several more weeks) (3) Do full-length practice tests only after steps (1) and (2).
Specialized High School Admissions Test
All grade 8 and first-time grade 9 students who are New York City residents and who wish to attend a Specialized High Schools, with the exception of LaGuardia High School, must take the SHSAT. SHSAT testing is open to public district and charter school students, private and parochial school students, students with disabilities, students with limited mobility, and English Language Learners (ELLs). Approximately 29,000 students took the SHSAT for September 2019 admission and approximately 5,000 students received an offer.

Get Your Test Ticket
Test tickets will be available approximately two weeks after the registration deadline. Test tickets indicate the testing date, time, location, and testing accommodations (if applicable).
Parents and guardians can print their test tickets from MySchools, or they can get the printed ticket from their school counselor. Students must test on the date and at the location on their ticket. Please report conflicts to your child’s school counselor as soon as possible. Students must bring their printed test ticket on the day of the test.

Before the day of the test, parents and guardians should sit with their child to talk about which Specialized High Schools they prefer. Parents and guardians must fill in their school preference order on the bottom of the test ticket. Choose the school you prefer the most as your first choice school. There is no downside to doing this.
