Duplex printing is the PIXMA printer function that allows you to print on both sides of the paper. Follow these instructions to set duplex printing from a Mac ®. Set Duplex Printing. Open the application you use for printing (the Print dialog box). Check the Two-Sided check box next to the number of copies. Follow the instructions below to Manual Duplex print. Open the document you wish to Manual Duplex print. Select File and Print. Click the drop down arrow next to Copies and Pages. NOTE: In some programs, Copies & Pages may not be listed. You may need to click on another button or tab before accessing Copies & Pages. Duplex printing is only possible when you choose US Letter, A5, A4, JIS B5 (B5 JIS), or Postcard from Paper Size. When you use the automatic duplex printing function to print a postcard, print the address side before you print the message side. When borderless printing is set, duplex printing isn't possible. Duplex (Manual): When you want to print on both sides of the paper, choose this option. In this mode, the printer prints all even numbered pages first. Then the printer driver will stop and show the instructions required to re-install the paper. When you click OK the odd numbered pages will be printed.

The following applies to Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. Mac OS X Print lets you create a preset which can become your default print format, or specify duplex on a per-file basis.
Make sure the printer you are using is set up for duplex (two-sided) printing. Also, some applications (such as InDesign), and some file formats may not be compatible with duplex printing.

Create a Duplex Printing Preset
- Open the file or web page you wish to print.
- Select File > Print, or do Command-P.
- In the print dialog box, click the drop-down menu which gives the name of the application, or says Copies & Pages, and select Layout.
- Click the Two-Sided drop down menu and select the appropriate binding. Long-edge binding prints with the orientation on the vertical edge; Short-edge binding prints with the orientation along the horizontal edge.
5. Click the Presets drop-down menu and select Save As...
6. Enter a name for your duplex preset.
7. Click OK.
Your duplex preset will be the one selected each time you open the print dialog box, unless you select another preset.
If you do not create a duplex preset, you can print the open file or web page by selecting Layout from the drop-down menu in the print dialog box, and then selecting a binding option in the Two-Sided drop-down menu.
Note:Mac settings are not saved so it has to be done manually each time you print. I will change the settings for Mac uses via
web permanently when I am there next time.
1. Click Filemenu and select Print.
2. Select the Layout drop down selection.
3. If two sided printing is available you will have the option to use Long Edge Binding (for Portrait)
or Short Edge Binding (for Landscape).
You can print on both sides of a sheet of paper.
Duplex printing is available for the following paper sizes.
A4, A5, B5, Letter, Legal (13 inches), Legal (13.5 inches), Legal (14 inches), Executive, 8.5SQ (8.5in x 8.5in), Folio (210 mm x 330 mm), 16K (197 mm x 273 mm, 195 mm x 270 mm, 184 mm x 260 mm), Custom size
Duplex printing is available for the following media weight.
64 to 176 g/m2 (17 to 46.8 lb)
Do not use media weight other than the above, because paper jams may occur.

This function may not be available for some applications.

When printing on custom size paper, duplex printing is available for the following width and length ranges.
Width: 148 to 216 mm (5.8 to 8.5 inches)
Length: 210 to 356 mm (8.3 to 14.0 inches)
For Windows PCL Printer Driver
Open the file to print.
Click [Preferences].
Select [Long Edge] or [Short Edge] from [2-Sided Printing] on the [Setup] tab.
Change other settings if necessary, and then click [OK].
For Windows PS Printer Driver
Open the file to print.
Click [Preferences].
Select [Flip on Long Edge] or [Flip on Short Edge] from [Print on Both Sides] on the [Layout] tab.
